The white gear on my cut-pile machine is stuck. How can I fix it?Updated 6 months ago

Before you begin troubleshooting, always make sure your machine is turned off and unplugged. Move the white gear by hand to see if you can visually locate the problem area.

There are a number of reasons the machine gear might not be performing a smooth rotation:

1. A previous adjustment might be causing the upper or lower machine bar to have over-extended, throwing off the mechanics of the machine. To check the adjustments of your AK-I, or to reset it to its factory setting, check out this article and video

2. Normal use has loosened the bolt on the white gear, causing the lower machine bar to slide along the channel as the gear rotates. Check that the bolt is tightened at the center-most part of the white gear. The nut on the top side of the gear, that the bolt tightens into, can easily become stripped, which will prevent the bolt from staying tight. In this case, we suggest replacing the nut (and perhaps the bolt, too). Email us to purchase replacement parts at [email protected].

3. The scissor closing piece, which causes the scissors to smoothly close, might be out of adjustment or pushed too far toward the back of the machine. To check the adjustment of your scissor closing piece, or to reset it to its factory setting, check out step 4 of this article, and this video at the 10:35 mark

4. Something else might be happening in your machine. Yarn or another material might be stuck or jammed in one of the square bearings or the white gear. If you think this might be the problem, contact [email protected] for assistance.
